WEDDING

Christian marriage, as the name suggests, seeks to have a place for God in the lives of the bride and groom.  The gospel brings great richness to human relationships in general and marriage in particular.  There are requirements by both the state and church and the date needs to be set well in advance, so that there is plenty of time to do the preparation and necessary bookings.  Please phone or email the parish office for information.

BAPTISM

Baptism (also known as christening) is when we begin our journey into God.  The old tradition was infant baptism, however, we can be baptized at any stage of our lives.  It is a simple ceremony involving water, chrism (oil), a candle and readings and prayers.  The outward action is simple but the inward reality is life long and sets us on the road to our eternal destiny.  It is not a naming ceremony.  This is another matter altogether.  It is fair to say that baptism should only be undertaken by those who have serious intent to strive to live by the vows that are made by the parents and godparents.  A time of preparation is required.

Confirmation
This comes some 12 – 15 years after infant baptism and is, as the name implies, confirming something that ideally is already a reality in one’s life.  In the case of adult’s seeking baptism and confirmation, this may well be done by the Bishop at the one time.  It is also preceded by a period of preparation.

EDUCATION

Christian education is another important component of parish life.  There has scarcely been a more important time than the present for Christians to be able to articulate their faith: What they really do believe and why.  We are deluged by so much information and many conflicting and perplexing issues, at times it is difficult to know how to respond or what to do.  In all of this, the Christian faith has much to say and contribute to daily life.  We are in the process of making more opportunities available for education and interaction and the details will be advertised in our events section.  You can also make any enquiries you might have or phone the parish office during office hours.

FUNERAL

Of their very nature funerals are short notice.  In the event the parish office may be contacted directly or the request may come via the undertaker.  The service and its details need to be arranged directly with the Priest, including the day and time of the service.
